Today, the world is ever connected. The internet is a super tool that has brought the world together while at the same time creating a gap between the haves and the have-nots. Consumer culture has become an integral part of Western culture. Brands and companies have blurred the lines between wants and needs. Advertising in such a way is aimed to bring more convince and options to the consumer. In reality, this type of tactic is most beneficial to the corporation. What’s more, practices such as planned obsolescence further fuels the consumer cycle. Big business practices such as image propagation, branding, and planned obsolescence has led to excess waste in the wake if today’s global consumer culture, one that is centered around profit. There are companies in today’s global market that rely on branding to sell goods. Clothing brands including Levi’s and Abercrombie and Fitch capitalize on the â€Å"Americanness† of the brand they have both w orked to create. While these brands may seem second nature to those living in the United States, abroad these brands ooze American culture. Brands like Levi’s and Abercrombie have created a relationship between its brand and the culture from which it came. Abercrombie is essentially selling a brand that is hip to New York Fashions. Levi’s is selling to an audience that believes their jeans are better because they have been created in the progressive city of sunny San Francisco, California.
